The DDP10EF has an NVME SSD capacity or 300TB and the DDP78EXR was equipped with 1,2 PB of hard disk storage.
In addition to the standard Windows, Linux and Mac computers also a 4K scanner and an Archive computer had to be integrated.
The previous system was based on Fibrechannel but the customer was able to keep the fiber cable infrastructure by replacing the FC transceivers with 100GbE Transceivers.
Both the Windows and Linux computers where connected via an ethernet switch and use the NVME-oF/RDMA protocol. The Macs and some other Linux computers are using iSCSI instead. Initially the customer was very reluctant to even consider another solution then Fibrechannel.
But in the end they saw the advantages standard ethernet offers. Using a film scanner in combination with shared storage can be complex.
First of all it must be guaranteed that the writing of the data always happens no matter what.
Secondly the scanner and scan computer can sometimes be end of life with old Linux versions.
Thirdly some scan computers do not use buffering. In some situations one could say the devil lies in the details. This is certainly the case when in addition to standard Mac, Windows and Linux computers and applications also more complex devices must be hooked up with sharing as well.
The fact the A/V FS is an in house developed file system often comes in handy then.
